Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. Summary of reasons to avoid Rick Warren’s Purpose-Driven Broad Way Christianity « Churchmouse Campanologist

An excerpt:

Within Rick Warren’s Purpose-Driven Movement is what he calls Broad Way Christianity. Hmm. Jesus specifically told us that entry to His Kingdom would be via the narrow gate:

… strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matt. 7:14)

Below, thanks to Lighthouse Trails Research’s January 18, 2010 article by Warren Smith, are ‘10 Scriptural Reasons Not to Be Involved with Rick Warren’s Broad Way Christianity’, summarised (emphases mine):

1/ No matter how well-intentioned, salvation does not come by way of the broad gate. Jesus warns us against it. He also cautions us that few will find the narrow gate.

2/ Warren picks and chooses Scripture to suit his needs. He also reinterprets some verses, e.g. the overstating of Noah’s finding God’s favour. Those who do not know the Bible may be deceived.

3/ Warren focuses on today’s temporal issues at the expense of our spiritual malaise.

4/ Warren’s Broad Way Christianity says that Satan’s wiles are ‘entirely predictable’, yet, he advocates a new kind of spirituality and encourages a worldview.
