We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. « Children’s Catechism, week 3. Yes, for children, from a day when there were "standards," unlike today. Nowadays, we have Murrikan Cowboy religion. Just spent two weeks listening to "The Trinity Broadcasting Network," an American phenomenon of the worst sort. Cowboys, yahoos, carnival barkers. No theological standards, except those hothouse principles of Pentecostal enthusiasms. From such, Good Lord, deliver us we most heartily and earnestly beseech Thee!

Westminster Shorter Catechism, week 3

Q. 7. What are the decrees of God?

A. The decrees of God are, his eternal purpose, according to the counsel of his will, whereby, for his own glory, he hath foreordained whatsoever comes to pass.[22]

Q. 8. How doth God execute his decrees?

A. God executeth his decrees in the works of creation and providence.[23]
